Did you know that cats spend 70% of their lives sleeping?

Updated: Oct 21

Have you ever wondered why cats spend so much time sleeping? If it seems like your cat is always napping, that’s because they are! Cats can sleep anywhere from 12 to 16 hours a day , and some sleep up to 20 hours!

Here are some reasons why cats are real sleepyheads:

Hunter's instinct

In the wild, wild cats need a lot of energy to hunt and survive. Sleeping helps them conserve this energy for hunting. Even domestic cats, which do not need to hunt for food, maintain this instinctive behavior.

Recovery and growth

Sleep helps cats’ bodies recover and grow, especially kittens. Sleep is essential for keeping them healthy and ready to play and explore.

Climate and temperature

Cats tend to sleep more when it’s cold or rainy. They prefer to conserve energy when the outside conditions aren’t ideal. 🐾

Flexible sleep cycle

Cats have a sleep cycle that combines periods of light sleep, when they are always ready to spring into action, with short periods of deep sleep. This allows them to rest and stay alert at the same time.

Boredom or tranquility

Sometimes cats sleep out of pure tranquility or boredom. If the environment is calm and safe, or if there is not much going on, they simply relax and sleep a little longer.

Even though they may seem to be always sleeping, cats still have plenty of energy for their nocturnal play and explorations!
