Why doesn't your cat need a bath?

Did you know that most cats DO NOT need to be bathed?

That’s right! Cats are masters of cleanliness, and their rough tongues act as natural “sponges.” They spend hours licking themselves and taking care of their own hygiene.

Here are 3 reasons why you can (generally) avoid bathing your cat:

1. Natural cleaning

Cats are extremely clean and lick themselves regularly to remove dirt, oils and loose hair.

2. Unnecessary stress

Most cats hate water! Bathing them can be a very stressful experience for them, and it can also be dangerous if they get too excited.

3. Preservation of natural oils

Cats' skin produces natural oils that protect and moisturize their coat. Frequent bathing can strip away these oils, leaving their fur dry and their skin irritated.

So when is bathing necessary?

Only in extreme situations, such as when your cat gets dirty with something toxic or that he can't clean up on his own. Otherwise, let your feline do the work!

Final tip: If your cat needs a “bath,” a good brushing is usually enough to remove dead hair and keep the coat healthy.
